GRP-profiles

GRP-profiles offer a wide range of applications and, thanks to the numerous positive properties of the material, can impress in a wide variety of industries and areas of application. Find out what makes GRP-profiles so special and what advantages they offer.

GRP – a convincing material

“GRP” stands for glass fiber reinforced plastic. This is a composite material made from plastics and glass fibers. The plastic-polymer matrix is usually formed by polyester, epoxy or vinylester resins. These act as a binder for the glass fibers and give the material its dimensional flexibility in production. At the same time, the resin ensures the GRP’s environmental and chemical resistance. The glass fibers used ensure the material’s dimensional stability and robustness. While GRP was primarily used in the thermal insulation of buildings when it was first discovered at the beginning of the 20th century, it is now used in a wide variety of industries. These include shipbuilding and vehicle construction, aerospace and the manufacture of a wide variety of constructions such as platforms, walkways and shelving structures. The composite of glass fibers and synthetic resin provides the material with enormous stability. While glass fibers are particularly resistant to tension and plastic resins are particularly good at withstanding compressive loads, GRP combines these two properties in a very robust and durable material. Thanks to the positive properties of the material used, GRP-profiles are convincing in a wide range of applications. You have the choice between:

  • GRP-profiles U-profile
  • GRP angle profile
  • GRP square tube
  • GRP round tube
  • GRP flat profile
  • GRP-profiles I-profile

Depending on the desired area of application, the right GRP profile can be found.

Areas of application for GRP-profiles

Thanks to the large selection of geometric shapes for GRP-profiles, they also offer a wide range of applications in numerous sectors and industries. These include, among others:

  • Shelving systems in the logistics sector
  • Railroad and infrastructure facilities
  • Swimming pools and sewage treatment plants
  • Storage structures and cooling towers
  • Platform and staircase construction
  • and much more.

In addition to their low weight, easy installation and weather resistance, GRP-profiles offer another advantage over metal materials, particularly in outdoor areas: they are electrically insulating. This can greatly reduce the planning, installation and maintenance costs for all types of construction, as no complex earthing systems need to be installed. Despite the initially somewhat higher investment costs for constructions made of GRP-profiles, they can ensure long-term savings thanks to lower maintenance intensity. Numerous certificates also confirm the high quality properties of GRP-profiles from Lichtgitter.
