Chequer plate – for a secure hold

Chequer plate is useful wherever you need to rely on a secure footing. Not only in wet environments, but also in dry places, it ensures greater slip resistance and therefore a higher level of safety. It is precisely this serrated effect that ensures that chequer plate is primarily used as a surface for loading areas, ramps, floors, as edge protection for steps or similar. Because chequer plate is also visually appealing, it is also used for aesthetic purposes.

We at Lichtgitter have been known as a specialist company for the production of Gratings since 1929 and know our way around. With our many years of experience, we can advise you and are your supplier for chequer plates made of stainless steel, aluminum or normal steel.

Chequer plates – many names for different variants

Chequer plates are characterized by a diagonally ribbed surface structure with raised ridges and can be made of steel, stainless steel or aluminium. The diagonal arrangement of the protrusions ensures that the sheet is particularly slip-resistant. The difference between chequer plates and checker plates is the shape of the protrusions on the surface. With chequer plates, the profiles are rib-shaped and with chequer plates – as the name suggests – they are tear-shaped. Depending on the pattern of the sheet, it is given a different designation. Depending on the number of ridges in the pattern, it is also referred to as a quintet sheet or duet sheet.

An enormous amount of force is required from forming rollers to produce chequer plate. Only in this way is it possible to create the typical elevations of the sheet metal. This is no longer possible at a later stage. In accordance with the German standard, we source chequer plates in accordance with DIN standard DIN 59220 The standard thickness of steel sheets ranges from 3 to 10 millimetres. Following the European standard, aluminium sheets with a rolled-in pattern are standardized according to EN 1386 and the thickness ranges from 1.2 to 20 millimetres.
